What are GREENS

Normally we hear (at least it should be) that we get all the green nutrients through our vegetables. But nowadays there is often chosen for "GREENS" products to get the daily quantity, the Americans call that their "five a day"  Athletic Greens The Ultimate Green Superfoods

Greens are combinations of plants that have been dried and mixed into a powder, green powders designed to help you easily get a range of health-promoting vitamins and minerals. Exact ingredients vary by brand, but common species are wheat grass, spirulina (an alga), chlorella, kale, kelp, pineapple, beets, ginseng and green tea extract. Many brands also contain pre- and probiotics as well as digestive enzymes. Mix the powder in your favorite drink and you are ready to go.

Superfoods: what is a superfood + mini reviews

The term 'Superfoods' you see more and more on blogs, magazines and also packaging of food and supplements. But what is a Superfood, and why should you eat Superfoods? I have tested a few Superfoods from De Tuinen for you where I like to share my opinion and experiences, but first an introduction:

Characteristics of a Superfood are that they contain several nutrients that are good for our body. For example, Superfoods often contain good proteins, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, anti-oxidants and essential fat and amino acids. Most Superfoods are also biologically produced and are free of pesticides, chemicals and (growth) hormones. Superfoods help keep our body strong and healthy from the inside out and you can also see this on the outside: through a good mix of the right nutrients you get stronger nails, more beautiful hair and radiant skin.

Superfoods can be given in powder form, as a supplement or as a drink, but you can also find Superfoods in the supermarket in the form of fruit, vegetables, seeds and nuts. Most people, however, do not get enough of these last Superfoods because they often eat outside the door, do not have time to cook or to do conscious shopping or just unhealthy food. For those people, Superfoods from a package are a solution, a Superfood in the form of supplements or powders can easily be added to your meals without you having to do a lot of work. But also the healthy (er) people among us can benefit from Superfoods, especially if you want to take care of your body extra well.

This super drink contains juice from the acai berry plus a special anti-oxidant mix. The recommended amount is 20 ml, which you can drink immediately (I think I taste too strong) or dilute with water (as in the picture above) to a nice fruity drink. Benefits of acai juice include the good fats and proteins, it can help lose weight because it gives you a feeling of satisfaction, the vitamins help keep your skin young and it promotes a good bowel movement ( source 1 ). I think the acai juice thinned with water tastes good and find it no problem to drink a glass of it every day.

The ingredients in this bottle are: Acai fruit juice complex, oxy3 10% (propietary blend or red grape, lycopene and resveratro) ascorbic acid, potassium sorbate. 

I never heard of baobab powder, but this fruit powder is versatile and easy to add to smoothies, yogurt and snacks. The powder grows in the fruit of the African Baobab tree and is therefore minimally processed so that it retains all good qualities. Baobab powder is rich in proteins, fiber, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium. The powder should give you more energy and make you feel fuller by the fibers ( source 2 ). The powder tastes a bit sweet, actually tasty! It therefore fits perfectly in fruit smoothies, where I add a large tablespoon.

Athletic Greens Superfoods

And then the last Superfood I could test: wheatgrass powder. This would be the ultimate green Superfood made from young wheat grass. Wheat grass contains an abundance of vitamins and minerals such as various B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, zinc, chromium and phyto-nutrients such as chlorophyll and carotenoids. You can add this powder to smoothies / juices, dissolve in water but also for example with your breakfast cereal.

Now I must honestly say that I am not a fan. When I opened this pot, I already smelled it: I'm not going to like this. Nevertheless, I tried it, and the smell dissolved in water was not that bad (it smelled like lukewarm green iced tea ...) but I can not get it. My friend is not a fan either, and he likes almost everything ... unfortunately I will not use this wheatgrass powder every day. I am very curious about different Superfoods and healthy food, but if I really do not like something, it does not have to be for me. Unfortunately, but perhaps for the advanced, a healthy addition to your diet.
